Lighting Design Living Wall

Introduction to Lighting Design

While light is intangible, it has one of the greatest impacts on the built environment. Lighting is no longer a functional necessity, but a critical component in the design of all artificially lit spaces. The future of lighting design continues to be smart – with lighting systems even more interconnected and intelligent. Smart lighting allows for pre-set and customised lighting experiences. This means the brightness, direction, amount and even light colour temperature can be changed to align with requirements and daily routines. In addition, smart lighting reduces resource usage, making it more energy-efficient and sustainable. It is such a key factor in terms of resource usage,  fairly recent UK regulations are in place to ensure lighting and lighting design is as efficient as possible – here’s a link to our article: Lighting Regulations

It isn’t just indoor lighting which is seeing a transformation either. Landscape architects and designers are using innovative lighting techniques to increase the use and appeal of outdoor spaces throughout the year, whatever time of day or night.

We believe excellent lighting design should deliver many benefits from increased productivity, improved feelings of wellness and reduced resource usage while also delivering an aesthetic appeal. It isn’t just for corporate settings either, but relevant right across the board as even residential homes can be positively impacted. This is why we have enhanced our catalogue of services to include a new Lighting Design component.

Flexibility, sustainability, affordability and hybrid working have become top priorities as the effects of climate change increase, energy prices rise, and the increasing need for our homes to become multifunctional workspaces.

In our experience it is important to take time to understand what clients (and design teams) need and want to achieve (including the budget) before introducing concepts & ideas. Creativity, technical expertise, innovation, teamwork and meticulous attention to detail are key to create, deliver and support inspirational lighting and lighting control for a range of sectors, budgets and end users.

Our approach is a flexible one, focussing on the needs of each area as well as the space as a whole. We use our experience of different lighting techniques, systems, solutions and programming to ensure each individual space is optimised. We offer regular site visits to make sure the implementation is accurate and meets the high standard of service we set out to achieve.

Automation and Lighting Design

Lighting control systems play a key role in our designs, especially for spaces which are to be used flexibly. When designing lighting schemes, it is crucial to consider how the space is going to be used and what lighting is needed for each of those uses. Lighting control allows us to program the lighting, window treatments and ancillary features (such as audio-visual equipment or fireplaces) to be set at different levels to achieve various distinct ambient scenes and moods for the space. As well as providing wider automation benefits, we believe a well-designed lighting control system should be easy and intuitive to use. We have the expertise to install, integrate, retrofit and support these systems.
